The Ottawa Senators were dealt a major blow in Friday’s season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs. While they left Scotiabank Arena with their first win of the year, they also left with an injury to top defenseman Jake Sanderson.
Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson left Friday's season-opening win against the Toronto Maple Leafs after playing just 4:29 of ice time. Sanderson suffered an apparent lower-body injury after getting tangled with Nick Paul. Head coach Travis Green confirmed Sanderson removed himself from the game over concerns he may have reaggravated a previous injury.
Following Sanderson's early departure, captain Thomas Chabot logged 27 minutes while rookie Carter Yakemchuk took over duties on the top power-play unit. The Senators expect to learn more about Sanderson's status over the weekend ahead of upcoming road games against the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings.
