The Celtic Fans Collective has issued a scathing response to Celtic Football Club and principal shareholder Dermot Desmond following a protest at St Andrews. The club previously condemned the demonstration at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, severed engagement with the Collective, and threatened indefinite bans for those involved. In response, the Collective claimed the club reacted hastily because Desmond felt personally slighted after tennis balls featuring crossed-out images of him were thrown onto the golf course.
The fan group accused Desmond of prioritizing his standing in elitist golfing circles over the concerns of working-class Celtic supporters. The Collective argued that the board showed an urgency regarding the golf protest that has been missing during transfer failures and poor team performances, promising to issue a more detailed response to the club's sanctions in due course.
