India head coach Gautam Gambhir has opened up about his conversations with teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and explained why the youngster had to wait for his chance despite being in good form.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir revealed the discussions he had with teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi regarding why the youngster had to wait for opportunities despite being in strong form. Gambhir explained that established players cannot be easily dropped after a few failures, noting that team selection depends on team balance and dressing room security rather than outside noise or social media.
Sooryavanshi, who earlier broke Sachin Tendulkar's record to become India's youngest international cricketer, recently featured in the Asian Games. He scored 38 runs against Sri Lanka in the semifinal and 15 runs in the final as India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs to retain their gold medal, making Sooryavanshi the youngest Indian Asian Games gold medalist at 15 years, six months, and six days.
