Canada enjoyed unprecedented success at its home World Cup. So how can Jesse Marsch and the men's national team reach another level?

Canada Soccer is addressing major strategic, financial, and squad questions under head coach Jesse Marsch ahead of a friendly against the United States and the 2030 World Cup cycle. After reaching the round of 16 at the 2026 tournament, Canada aims to climb into Pot 2 by scheduling matches against elite European and South American opponents while navigating World Cup qualifying beginning in 2027.
Canada Soccer has raised $26.7 million CAD toward a $25 million goal to fund player development, expanding youth camps to roughly 20 this year. The team also faces squad management challenges, including managing Alphonso Davies' fitness after playing just 117 minutes across 29 matches, while coping with numerous squad injuries without softening Marsch's high-tempo training sessions.
