The Story in 60 Seconds

Construction is progressing rapidly on the VinFast Trong Dong Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is slated to become the world's largest stadium with a 135,000-seat capacity. Work began nine months ago on the venue, designed to resemble a traditional Vietnamese bronze drum. Officials anticipate unveiling the finished stadium by July 2027, moving the original completion date forward by an entire year.

The stadium serves as the centerpiece of a wider $38 billion Olympic Sports City development covering 22,200 acres. Featuring a 408-meter-wide circular gold dome and the world's largest retractable roof of its type, Vietnamese officials hope the venue will enable future bids to host major global competitions, including the World Cup and the Olympic Games.
