The outcome of the Premier League's probe into Manchester City is understood to have put 'significant strain' on the diplomatic relationship between the UK and the UAE.

Manchester City's guilty verdict on the vast majority of 115 Premier League charges has reportedly placed diplomatic ties between the UK and the United Arab Emirates under significant strain. According to Bloomberg, UAE officials warned the ruling could threaten billions of pounds in future investments. Additionally, City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak reportedly held a private meeting with UK Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds in Downing Street a week before the decision emerged.
Manchester City have appealed the Independent Commission's judgment, which alleged around £900 million in inflated sponsorship deals. Premier League chief executive Richard Masters called the outcome the most significant in the league's history, with potential punishments including points deductions or expulsion. The club maintains that the disputed funding came directly from Abu Dhabi government sponsors rather than the club's owners.
