There were a lot of Nationals hitters who were surprisingly productive in 2026. However, the biggest surprise for me was Keibert Ruiz, who turned his career around this season. Entering this season, I had given up on the Nationals catcher…

Sam Sallick of Federal Baseball argues that catcher Keibert Ruiz revitalized his career with the Washington Nationals during the 2026 season. After struggling defensively and offensively across the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Ruiz rebounded to hit .280 with a .759 OPS, posting a 105 wRC+ and achieving 2.2 bWAR.
Sallick highlights that Ruiz's offensive turnaround stemmed from pulling the ball at a league-leading 58.7% rate, sparked by a three-hit game against the Minnesota Twins on May 7. Defensively, Ruiz improved significantly under catching coach Bobby Wilson, recording a +2 fielding run value driven by improved pitch framing.
