With trade rumors swirling around Detroit's Simon Edvinsson wanting a new team, the Pittsburgh Penguins should be making a blockbuster trade offer to get him.

Pens Labyrinth writer Ryan Pawloski proposes that the Pittsburgh Penguins pursue a blockbuster trade for Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson. Citing Elliotte Friedman's reporting that Edvinsson prefers a trade amid an ongoing contract dispute, the writer argues the 23-year-old blueliner aligns with Pittsburgh general manager Kyle Dubas's goal of acquiring core talent in their early-to-mid 20s.
The proposed mock trade would see Pittsburgh acquire Edvinsson and a fifth-round pick in exchange for Rutger McGroarty, prospect Will Horcoff, an NHL defenseman, and a conditional 2027 second-round pick. Pawloski contends that despite the substantial package required, trading for and extending Edvinsson would secure Pittsburgh a vital top-pairing left-handed defenseman for the future.
