After the highs of Wembley and the pain of missing the World Cup, Gilmour is embracing a new role as one of Scotland’s senior players

Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour has embraced a leadership role with the national team, guiding younger players through international duties. The 25-year-old reflected on key moments in his Scotland career, including his breakout performance against England at Euro 2020 at Wembley and missing the World Cup in North America due to a knee injury suffered just 24 hours before departure.
Gilmour described missing the tournament as his lowest point in football, though manager Steve Clarke permitted him to travel alongside family and supporters. Now playing under Sebastien Pocognoli, Gilmour is relishing additional attacking freedom and responsibilities higher up the pitch.
