Manchester City's appeal against their guilty verdict for financial breaches faces a fresh setback

Manchester City's appeal against a guilty verdict for 114 Premier League financial breaches has reportedly suffered a setback due to past evidence given to UEFA. The Times reported that City previously told UEFA that two £15 million payments in 2012 and 2013 were arranged by Abu Dhabi United Group rather than the Abu Dhabi government, potentially undermining their current legal defense.
City deny any wrongdoing and maintain that state bodies legitimately funded the deals. However, this revelation, alongside 2015 statements from sponsor Etihad Airways, complicates their case as an independent panel prepares a ruling before the end of the year amid reports that rivals want City expelled if the appeal fails.
