Star 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey has not quite been the guy we saw at his peak, but he has still been productive so far this season.

Despite the San Francisco 49ers starting the season 4-0, writer Nick San Miguel argues that running back Christian McCaffrey has not looked quite like his usual self. Through four games, the 30-year-old running back has accumulated 218 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, and 122 receiving yards while averaging just over 50 rushing yards per contest.
San Miguel suggests that McCaffrey's reduced burst is offset by head coach Kyle Shanahan managing his workload to keep him fresh for the playoffs. The writer notes that rookie third-round pick Kaelon Black has effectively supported the backfield with 31 carries for 120 yards, allowing the 49ers to keep McCaffrey under 20 touches per game.
