If the NBA hoped to clear up foul rules at Raptors practice, Scottie Barnes didn’t get the memo. In their preseason opener against Miami, Toronto dropped a 129–105 decision, but the night’s most talked-about play came early.
Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes expressed frustration with NBA officiating following a preseason visit by referees to team practice. Barnes commented on the league's point of emphasis targeting off-arm push-offs, stating that fouls and non-fouls still look the same to him while noting he did not want to get fined for criticizing officials.
The comments came after Barnes was whistled for an offensive foul against Klay Thompson in Toronto's 129–105 preseason loss to Miami. The NBA has instructed referees to strictly penalize ball-handlers who push off for space, prompting questions among players and fans regarding officiating consistency.
