Former Magpies academy star Josh Nicholson is pursuing a new career after his footballing days ended

Former Newcastle United academy defender Josh Nicholson revealed that being released by the club in 2021 relieved pressure and allowed him to pursue a career as a pilot. The 23-year-old works at Newcastle International Airport while completing part-time flight training, aiming to qualify fully by next April.
Nicholson shared his experience at an academy alumni event hosted by Newcastle's 'Next Phase of Play' program. Led by Academy Safeguarding Manager Julie Smith, the initiative provides continued support, networking, and aftercare to former players transitioning into new careers outside professional football.
