Sympathy is in short supply at other clubs after the findings of the independent commission last week laid-bare the scale of Manchester City’s rule-breaking across nine seasons.

Premier League rivals do not expect Manchester City to play in the top flight next season if the club's appeal against its financial breaches verdict fails. Manchester City lodged an appeal after an independent commission found them guilty of over 100 rule breaches spanning nine seasons. City maintains its innocence and insists irrefutable evidence supports its case ahead of an appeal hearing expected before Christmas.
Competing clubs believe a simple points deduction that causes just a single-season absence would be insufficient given the scale of the findings. The independent panel found over £830m of owner funding inflated revenues across multiple years. Pundit Jamie Carragher also urged that sanctions be decided this season and extend well beyond a single-year penalty.
