Mercedes driver George Russell faces a back-of-the-grid penalty at the Singapore Grand Prix following a DNF in Malaysia that requires a new engine installation. According to a report by Motorsport, paddock speculation suggests Mercedes might fast-track their newly developed ADUO-upgraded power unit to Singapore instead of waiting for the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
Introducing the upgraded engine early would allow Russell to serve his grid penalty immediately and avoid taking back-to-back penalties in Austin. The decision also creates a strategic dilemma for championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who could take an early penalty alongside Russell or delay the upgrade.
