Giant Roosters forward De La Salle Va’a is set to ask the club for a release so he can pursue an NFL career.
Sydney Roosters forward De La Salle Va’a plans to request a 10-week release from the NRL club to pursue an opportunity in American football. The 21-year-old, who stands 200cm tall and weighs 120kg, has been invited to trial for the NFL’s International Player Pathway program. Contracted to the Roosters through 2027, Va’a explained that he wants to test himself in the United States following outreach and interest from NFL scouts.
Meanwhile, former South Sydney Rabbitohs halfback Lewis Dodd opened up about his departure from the NRL club under head coach Wayne Bennett. Dodd revealed that Bennett bluntly informed him he was not viewed as the team's halfback, leading to his early exit after just six appearances. Dodd has since returned to the Super League to represent the Catalans Dragons.
