Cam Schlittler has quickly established himself as one of the American League’s best young pitchers. In the postseason, however, a curious pattern is beginning to emerge.

Matthew Sookram of Jays Journal writes that New York Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler struggled again in the ALDS, drawing parallels to his 2025 postseason exit against the Toronto Blue Jays. In Game 2 of the 2026 ALDS, the Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Yankees 5-2 after Schlittler surrendered six hits and four runs, two earned, over 4.1 innings while striking out only two batters.
The writer notes a distinct contrast in Schlittler's playoff performances, arguing he dominates the Boston Red Sox with 14.1 scoreless innings across two starts, but falters against contact-heavy AL East rivals. Sookram highlights that defensive errors and opposing contact have repeatedly derailed Schlittler, who allowed eight total runs across 10.2 ALDS innings against Tampa Bay and Toronto.
