New York Islanders forward Simon Holmstrom and defenseman Alexander Romanov suffered injuries during Tuesday night's defeat against the New York Rangers. Holmstrom was hit in the face by a clearing attempt from Sean Durzi in the first period, potentially suffering a broken nose. Head coach Pete DeBoer indicated that Holmstrom should be able to play through the issue ahead of Thursday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Romanov's status remains more uncertain after he exited in the third period following a tie-up behind the net. The defenseman struggled to put weight on his right leg, and DeBoer offered no immediate postgame update. Scott Mayfield is expected to enter the lineup alongside Logan Stanley and Tony DeAngelo if Romanov misses time.
