Ever since Max Scherzer left the team at the trade deadline in 2021, Nationals fans have been waiting for an ace to emerge. For years, we were holding out hope that MacKenzie Gore would be that guy. He showed great…

Sam Sallick argues that the Washington Nationals have secured their next front-line ace in Cade Cavalli following a breakout campaign. The 27-year-old right-hander was named the Opening Day starter and subsequently agreed to a four-year contract extension featuring a fifth-year club option after establishing himself as the leader of the pitching staff.
Cavalli posted a 3.02 ERA with 200 strikeouts across 169.2 innings, closing the season with a 9-1 record and a 2.08 ERA over his final 15 starts. Sallick highlights key adjustments, including the addition of a hard sweeper, increased cutter usage, and improved command, that fueled Cavalli's emergence.
