The New Jersey Devils defense has really struggled to start the season, and one veteran is taking a lot of the blame. Brenden Dillon has not been good enough with the injuries the team is facing.

Pucks and Pitchforks writer Nick Villano argues that defenseman Brenden Dillon's early-season struggles are significantly hurting the New Jersey Devils. With the team relying on an uncertain goaltending tandem of Jake Allen and Nico Daws, Villano asserts that the defensive unit has failed to provide necessary support, with Dillon particularly underperforming across the opening games.
According to the analysis, Dillon has been on the ice for four goals against and none for, while struggling notably on the penalty kill. Villano also criticizes Dillon's situational awareness, pointing out that his third-period fight against Jack McBain left the team severely shorthanded on left-handed defensemen after Jonas Siegenthaler suffered an injury.
