The San Francisco 49ers have signed former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Xavier Smith to their practice squad. In a corresponding roster move, the team placed wide receiver Dante Pettis on the practice squad injured reserve due to a calf injury.
Smith, who spent time with the Rams since 2024 before being waived on October 2, served as their punt and kickoff returner earlier this season. Writer Kyle Posey suggests the addition reflects San Francisco's desire to add speed around core targets Mike Evans and George Kittle.
