The selection of India’s para-shooting team for the Aichi-Nagoya Para Asian Games has come under a cloud of controversy after a group of para-shooters alleged corruption and financial demands in the selection process.
Indian para-shooters have alleged corruption, extortion, and manipulation in the selection process for the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Para Asian Games. In a representation to the Sports Authority of India, the athletes claimed they were coerced into paying kickbacks of 20 percent of their government cash awards to secure national team selection. Shooter Sandeep Kumar further criticized arbitrary decisions, noting lower-ranked competitors were picked ahead of top performers.
Paralympic Committee of India president Devendra Jhajharia denied all accusations, stating the selection process followed official guidelines and was entirely fair. While the Sports Ministry indicated genuine complaints would be examined, it noted the team roster is already finalized. The aggrieved shooters have warned they may approach the High Court for a court-monitored probe.
