Sitting at 0-4, the Texans are not making a coaching change. A shift in responsibilities will be taking place along the sidelines, however. Head coach DeMeco Ryans announced on Wednesday that he is taking over defensive play-calling responsibilities.
Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans announced on Wednesday that he is taking over defensive play-calling duties from defensive coordinator Matt Burke. Following an 0-4 start to the season, Ryans cited streamlining communication among defensive players as the main reason for the decision.
While the Texans rank fourth against the run, pass defense struggles have contributed to the winless start, allowing 260 passing yards per game. Ryans previously handed play-calling to Burke after an 0-3 start in 2025 before reversing the move ahead of Week 5.
