Yesterday marked five years since the Newcastle United takeover

talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has dismissed claims that Newcastle United's takeover has been a failure, while simultaneously questioning David Hopkinson's ambition for the club to consistently compete for titles by 2030. Speaking five years after the Saudi PIF-led consortium acquired the club, Jordan argued that Newcastle's turnaround from relegation candidates to cup winners represents significant success under strict financial regulations.
However, Jordan cast doubt on Hopkinson's long-term targets, arguing that financial rules and competing established elite clubs will prevent Newcastle from acquiring the necessary resources in short order. Since the 2021 takeover, Newcastle have qualified twice for the Champions League and won the 2025 Carabao Cup.
