It’s become almost a colloquial term at this point, the idea of a revenge game. A player goes against his former team, and that’s what people have begun to call it. Of course, it isn’t really that simple for most…

Mitch Marner faces his former team as the Vegas Golden Knights host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, Oct. 8. Marner, who left Toronto after deciding not to re-sign at the end of the 2024-25 season, joined Vegas on an eight-year contract through a sign-and-trade deal. The matchup represents another high-profile meeting between the winger and his former franchise in his second season with the Golden Knights.
During the 2025-26 season, Marner and the Golden Knights defeated the Maple Leafs in both of their regular-season meetings. Vegas earned a 6-5 overtime home victory on Jan. 15, where Marner tallied two assists, followed by a 6-3 win in Toronto on Jan. 23.
