ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell has no doubt about the NFL's best player through the first four games of the 2026 season: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
ESPN analyst Bill Barnwell named San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy his Most Valuable Player in his 2026 NFL quarter-season awards. Purdy has led the 4-0 49ers by completing 69.9 percent of his passes for 1,007 yards, 11 touchdowns, and one interception. He has achieved a league-leading 126.2 passer rating without taking a single sack through the first four games.
Several other 49ers earned recognition from Barnwell, including offensive tackle Trent Williams, who leads the Protector of the Year category. Linebacker Fred Warner and tight end George Kittle ranked second and third respectively for Comeback Player of the Year, while head coach Kyle Shanahan received praise for guiding the offense through multiple receiver injuries.
