La Liga president Javier Tebas has publicly criticized Real Madrid, accusing the club of trying to perpetuate a narrative regarding the ongoing Negreira case. In a statement on X, Tebas pushed back against Real Madrid TV's regular complaints about current officiating, calling the claim that Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira still influences modern Spanish referees outrageous.
Tebas reiterated that while the historical payments to Negreira are serious and must be legally investigated, sporting discipline under Spanish law remains time-barred. His remarks followed Real Madrid submitting a dossier to UEFA demanding action against Barcelona, who currently lead fourth-place Real Madrid by six points in the league standings.
