The skirl of bagpipes became a familiar noise in Boston after an estimated 50,000 members of the Tartan Army descended on the city for the World Cup.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced that the city will host Tartan Week in spring 2027 following the successful visit of Scottish fans during the 2026 World Cup. Speaking on Instagram in front of a giant inflatable traffic cone, Mayor Wu welcomed back the Tartan Army after an estimated 50,000 supporters traveled to Boston for tournament matches against Haiti and Morocco.
The announcement builds on a formal twinning initiative established between Glasgow and Boston following the tournament. Both cities signed a declaration of intent to collaborate on economic development, tourism, arts, and culture, which also prompted a reciprocal marketing campaign by Destination Glasgow and the creation of a commemorative tartan.
