The Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned forward Dominic James to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. James missed training camp, preseason, and the start of the 2026-27 NHL regular season after breaking his hand during offseason training in September. According to Eduard A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times, the assignment is temporary and James is expected to play just two AHL games before returning to Tampa Bay's roster.
James made his AHL return immediately, centering the third line for Syracuse on Friday night against the Rochester Americans. During his rookie campaign with the Lightning last season, the former Chicago Blackhawks draft pick tallied seven goals and eight assists in 43 regular-season appearances.
