Gavin Williams will start Game 5 of the American League Division Series for the Cleveland Guardians against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. Williams previously closed out Cleveland's 9-5 Game 4 road victory on Thursday, throwing 18 pitches, and manager Stephen Vogt confirmed that the right-hander recovered well and is ready to pitch without specific restrictions.
The decisive Game 5 follows a series comeback by Cleveland, which lost the opening two games at home before winning twice in Chicago. Williams, who also struck out 11 in Game 2, faces White Sox pitcher Burke, who previously worked 5 1/3 innings of bulk relief to earn the win in Game 2.
