The Story in 60 Seconds

Hull City forward Joe Gelhardt revealed he was scheduled for a medical with Birmingham City in August before securing a move to the Tigers instead. Birmingham City were on the verge of completing a deal with Leeds United for the 24-year-old attacker, but Hull City intervened at the last moment following a late-night phone call from owner Acun Ilicali.

Gelhardt subsequently signed a long-term permanent contract with Hull City running until June 2030. The forward had previously helped Sergej Jakirovic's side achieve promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs last season during a loan spell, making the permanent return to East Yorkshire his preferred choice.
