Newcastle United goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen requires surgery after suffering a hamstring injury while training with the France Under-21 national team. Manager Mathias Jaissle confirmed that the 20-year-old shot-stopper will miss the next two months. Jaouen, who joined the club from Reims in the summer, had only recently returned from an ankle problem before sustaining this latest setback.
The absence affects Newcastle's depth behind first-choice goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek and is expected to temporarily restore veteran Nick Pope to the backup role. Pope, who had fallen to third choice, has reportedly drawn transfer interest from Bayern Munich ahead of next summer, but Jaouen's injury makes keeping him more crucial for Newcastle.
