The Story in 60 Seconds

The FIA confirmed that human error in Race Control disrupted the opening segment of sprint qualifying at the Singapore Grand Prix on October 9, 2026. Following a red flag caused by Sergio Perez hitting the barrier, Overtake Mode was mistakenly left unavailable before being turned on for just 27 seconds and shut off again, causing major power discrepancies among drivers.

Several drivers experienced uneven power levels, including Carlos Sainz, Kimi Antonelli, Charles Leclerc, and both Aston Martin drivers. Sainz criticized the inconsistency after being eliminated in SQ1, which followed a separate timing system glitch and recent software issues.
