Quinn Hughes and Jared Spurgeon have made NHL history, becoming the first defensive duo to accomplish a remarkable feat through the first five games of a season.

Minnesota Wild defensemen Quinn Hughes and Jared Spurgeon made NHL history by becoming the first defensive pairing to record simultaneous season-opening point streaks of five games. The duo surpassed Ryan Suter's previous franchise mark of four games while maintaining steady offensive production across the start of the season.
The pairing formed after Brock Faber suffered a preseason skull fracture that required surgery. Hughes and Spurgeon quickly formed effective chemistry on Minnesota's top defensive unit, which included Hughes becoming the fastest player in franchise history to reach 50 assists during an early October victory against the Boston Bruins.
