The former South African cricketer argues that pink balls would have allowed significantly more overs during the opening Test at Durban.
Former South Africa fast bowler Shaun Pollock has advocated for using pink balls in daytime Test matches to reduce overs lost to bad light. His comments followed disruptions during the first Test between Australia and South Africa in Durban, where nearly 61 overs were lost across the first three days. Pollock stated that using the pink ball could have allowed roughly 45 more overs of play.
The issue intensified on day three when fielder Ryan Rickelton lost sight of a Nic Maddinson shot in fading light, prompting umpires to halt play. Addressing criticism that pink balls behave unpredictably and move excessively, Pollock argued that such complaints are often driven by match situations rather than the ball itself.
