Johnson, a 2019 first-round draft pick, spent the start of the 2026-27 season with the AHL affiliate Rochester Americans and appeared in only six NHL games for Buffalo since the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign.
In return, Buffalo acquired Jones, who has posted 14 goals and 42 assists across 255 career NHL games, alongside Laatsch, a 2021 seventh-round pick who has yet to make his NHL debut.
