Minnesota Wild forward Nico Sturm was sent to the hospital for precautionary evaluation on Monday night after taking a puck to the head during a 4-2 victory against the Vegas Golden Knights. Sturm was struck on the right side of his helmet by a first-period slap shot from teammate Jared Spurgeon. He was attended to by medical staff on the ice before skating off with assistance.
Wild coach John Hynes announced that Sturm is unlikely to travel with the team for Tuesday's matchup against Winnipeg. The incident comes shortly after defenseman Brock Faber suffered a skull fracture from a similar play in the preseason. Despite multiple injuries to key players, Minnesota improved its record to 4-1-1 on the season.
