The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk on injured reserve.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Monday that defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk has been placed on injured reserve. Van Riemsdyk sustained an injury during Friday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and subsequently missed Saturday's contest against the Dallas Stars. Penguins head coach Dan Muse confirmed that the defenseman will not travel with the team for the beginning of their four-game road trip, though he could potentially rejoin them later.
Spencer Stastney entered the lineup in place of van Riemsdyk on Saturday and is slated to fill in during his absence. Van Riemsdyk, who signed a two-year contract as a free agent on July 1 after six seasons with the Capitals, has recorded zero points through his first five games while paired with Kris Letang. Pittsburgh begins its road trip on Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
