Chelsea signed Jordan Henderson on a free transfer in the summer, following the expiration of his contract at Brentford.

Steven Gerrard has defended Jordan Henderson on The Overlap, calling the label of Henderson as merely a Chelsea squad player disrespectful. Gerrard argued that describing an accomplished veteran in that manner undervalues his drive and ability to contribute, though he noted Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso must manage the 36-year-old's playing time wisely throughout the campaign.
Henderson joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Brentford during the summer and recently scored twice and assisted Morgan Rogers in a 5-1 victory against Bournemouth. Teammate Rogers also praised the veteran midfielder, rejecting outside concerns about his age and describing him as the fittest player at the club.
