Alexander Zverev overcame apparent fitness issues to defeat Alexander Bublik 7-6(6), 4-6, 7-6(1) in the round of 16 at the Shanghai Masters. The top-seeded German saved four set points in the opening set before Bublik leveled the contest by claiming the second set. Zverev then dominated the deciding third-set tiebreak to secure the hard-fought victory.
Zverev appeared physically limited at times, walking gingerly throughout the match before closing it out with an ace. The win advances the 29-year-old to the quarterfinals, where he will face Alex de Minaur.
