Ben Simmons will be returning to the NBA after sitting out for a year. That return may have been a result of a crucial conversation with the Sacramento Kings general manager last August. In the E:60 documentary about Simmons’ NBA…

Ben Simmons explained that feeling healthy and missing basketball were the two reasons he gave Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry for returning to the NBA. The details were revealed in the E:60 documentary "Being Ben," which detailed conversations from August 2026 that led to Simmons signing a one-year contract with the Kings after sitting out the entire 2025-2026 season.
Simmons took a year-long hiatus to focus on physical rehabilitation and mental recovery following nerve irritation and multiple back surgeries. After returning to game action against the Golden State Warriors on October 11, Simmons is expected to start for the Kings in their regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on October 21.
