Carrick will do well to see out the month after latest Man Utd setback… Ratcliffe will have to make huge decision soon

Samuel Luckhurst argues that Manchester United manager Michael Carrick faces mounting pressure and will do well to keep his job through October following a 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atletico Madrid. Manchester United have now gone five matches without a win and have lost four of their nine fixtures this season. With co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in attendance at the Wanda Metropolitano, Luckhurst writes that club leadership faces an impending decision regarding Carrick's future.

During the match, Bryan Mbeumo missed a key chance and Bruno Fernandes struck the crossbar before Leny Yoro received a controversial red card following a VAR review. Luckhurst notes that while Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba performed well, Fernandes struggled over 90 minutes. Carrick now faces another high-pressure fixture on Sunday against Leeds United at Elland Road.
