The New York Islanders defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2, led by a two-goal performance from Kyle Palmieri. Palmieri opened the scoring on a deflection, followed by Matias Maccelli's first goal as an Islander to build a 2-0 lead. Palmieri's game-winning goal was set up by Matthew Schaefer, who recorded his sixth assist of the season, and Maccelli, who notched his fourth. Defenceman Matt Kessel made his debut for the Islanders, replacing Scott Mayfield in the lineup and assisting on the opening goal. The Islanders next travel to face the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs.
