The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the 2026 offseason with Jake Browning positioned behind Baker Mayfield. However, undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels ultimately emerged as the better option during training camp, winning the backup quarterback competition.
The Los Angeles Chargers are signing veteran quarterback Jake Browning following his departure from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fox Sports reporter Greg Auman and Tom Pelissero reported the move on Tuesday. The addition comes as the Chargers look for answers following an 0-5 start to their season.
Browning previously competed for the Buccaneers' backup role behind Baker Mayfield during the 2026 training camp. However, Tampa Bay released Browning after undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels won the backup quarterback job and later stepped into the starting lineup due to injuries.
