The Pistons had been linked to Herro as a potential third team in trade scenarios, but the Heat and Bucks completed a direct deal. According to league insiders, Powell has emerged as a top contingency plan for a front office intent on adding scoring and secondary playmaking around franchise guard Cade Cunningham. The team’s target list also reportedly includes free agent Miles Bridges and veteran Klay Thompson.

The 33-year-old guard is coming off a career-best season in 2025-26, where he averaged 21.7 points per game while shooting 38.0% from three-point range, earning his first All-Star selection. His ability to create his own shot and operate effectively off the ball provides the offensive versatility the Pistons seek.
