While the Capitals lost to Carolina last night 4-2, veteran defenseman Justin Holl stepped in for the injured Matt Roy and scored his first goal as a Capital.

The Washington Capitals fell 4-2 to Carolina, but newly recalled defenseman Justin Holl scored his first goal as a Capital in the defeat. Holl was called up from the Hershey Bears after Matt Roy was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, quickly stepping into head coach Spencer Carbery's lineup.
Writer John Murray notes that while he initially preferred calling up 22-year-old rookie Ryan Chesley, Holl's veteran performance justified the decision. Murray argues that keeping Chesley in the AHL for development while relying on experienced depth like Holl benefits Washington's blue line.
