Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal, the playoff MVP in their Stanley Cup championship run last season, will miss one to two months with a torn calf muscle.

Carolina Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal will miss one to two months after suffering a torn calf muscle, head coach Rod Brind'Amour announced Tuesday. The 38-year-old center sustained the injury while warming up before Carolina's pregame skate in Philadelphia on Sunday, where he was a late scratch for the contest.
Staal was scoreless through his first six appearances of the season for the 5-1-1 Hurricanes. He served as a pivotal contributor during Carolina's Stanley Cup championship run last season, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after recording 12 points in 19 postseason games.
