Contract negotiations between the Detroit Red Wings and defenseman Simon Edvinsson have stretched into mid-October, delaying the 23-year-old’s start to the 2026-27 season as he seeks his first deal beyond his entry-level contract.
Detroit Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff stated that the organization has no interest in accommodating defenseman Simon Edvinsson's trade request. The 23-year-old requested a trade and returned to Sweden to train after contract negotiations stalled into mid-October following his entry-level deal.
Despite the impasse, Detroit remains focused on signing Edvinsson to a new contract and holds approximately $15.92 million in cap space. Recent comparable contracts for young defensemen across the NHL suggest a potential valuation between $6 million and $8.5 million annually.
