Away fan John Ryan toppled from the upper tier at Ipswich Town's ground and landed on home supporters.

Maidstone United supporter John Ryan has been found not guilty of assault by beating and actual bodily harm following a jury trial at Ipswich Crown Court. The 62-year-old fell from the upper tier of the Cobbold Stand onto Ipswich Town supporters Joanne Peters and Aaron Rose during an FA Cup match at Portman Road in January 2024.
Ryan stated that he could not stop himself during goal celebrations in Maidstone's 2-1 victory, telling the court he was unsure if he slipped or was pushed. The victims reported suffering injuries including whiplash and a kick to the head, while Ryan apologized outside court, maintaining the incident was an accident.
