Contract negotiations have dragged out the start of the 2026-27 season for Detroit Red Wings’ defenseman Simon Edvinsson. The 23 year old is looking for the first deal after his entry-level contract, which saw him rise into a top-four role…

The Detroit Red Wings have no interest in honoring a trade request from defenseman Simon Edvinsson, according to interim general manager Shawn Horcoff. The 23-year-old requested a trade and returned to Sweden to train after prolonged contract disputes delayed his deal into mid-October. Horcoff stated that the organization remains committed to negotiating and is working diligently to sign the young blueliner to an extension under various structural options.
Edvinsson is seeking his first post-entry-level contract following recent lucrative deals signed by other young NHL defensemen across the league. Detroit currently holds $15.92MM in cap space and could benefit from his return, having allowed 3.17 goals-against per game through the start of the 2026-27 season.
